June 2022 Newsletter

From the Director

Dear Friends of Shobi’s Table,

Today I got to help make hand pies.  One of the reasons I love them is because they are done best when we have a full crew.  Our staff makes the dough, and once it’s risen, we know it’s all hands on deck!  We use the whole length of the silver counter for the process. First, the dough is cut into 3 oz balls, then rolled and stretched into rounds, then filled with whichever filling is on the menu that week, brushed with egg wash, then baked in the oven.  It’s a full morning!

Making hand pies is a small example of what needs to be done to make Shobi’s Table go, but it is a perfect example of why we need a whole community to be able to do this work.  There is much to do behind the scenes to make those hand pies and so many other delicious meals ready and continually available. We need everyone from staff to volunteers, donors to partners, and especially regular customers at the truck! I am so grateful for all of you.  Shobi’s Table needs all of you!

I’m happy to share with you one big update in my life – I’m expecting a baby!  Sometime mid-summer I will step away for a time of maternity leave to adjust to the new life of motherhood.  I am confident that in my time away, Shobi’s Table will keep on doing wonderful work with our many community members tending to it.  Our new staff have stepped into their roles with ease, and I am so grateful to be handing it over to such capable and hospitable people.

I ask that you keep on giving your time, your talent, your treasure and your prayers this summer. We will continue to need you all!  Has it been a while since you’ve volunteered? We’d love to see you in the kitchen.  Have you been to the truck lately to share lunch with us? We want to see you there.  Have you given to our Spring Appeal yet? Your donation will do wonderful things.  However you can be a part of Shobi’s Table, we will need your hands and hearts this summer.  Summer will see more growth in breadth and depth, and you are an essential part of it.

In gratitude and joy,

We Love Our Volunteers

Recently we added a third day to our lunch service, which has been going really well. With that being said, we have added more volunteer days and times! You can now come help out all week long! There are opportunities to help out in the kitchen or out in the community on the truck! Check out the volunteer tab on our website to find out more information, or sign up with the links below. We hope to see you soon!
