The Community – You!

Shobi’s Table will be known by the community that grows in and around the ministry that we do together.  We want this community to reflect the diversity of the community where we serve together and the ELCA churches throughout the St Paul Area Synod that come to claim their membership in Shobi’s Table.


Deacon Kari Alice Olsen, Mission Explorer

Kari Olsen is a Deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, serving with a specific eye towards food ministry.  Kari discerned her call into the ministry while working in different kitchens for 6 years, particularly while she was Food Service Coordinator at Holden Village – a remote Lutheran retreat center in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. There, she lived and grew in her understanding of how deeply connected the hospitality of the Lord’s Communion Table and our own kitchen tables are, revealing the love of God made manifest in the food that nourishes our body and souls.  She has her Master of Arts in Ministry, for which her final project was creating and leading Supper Church – a practical liturgy that extends the space and words of worship over the depth of how God feeds us – from farm, to cooking, to table, and even the clean-up.  She is currently serving as the Kitchen Coordinator at Christ Lutheran on Capitol Hill in St. Paul, and as the Mission Explorer for Shobi’s Table developing a ministry out of a food truck that will serve as a Pay-As-You-Can Cafe.
