- Food Truck update
As the spring begins, I am full of so much gratitude. Gratitude that the weather is warming up, and that being outside to serve and share a Shobi’s Table lunch won’t be quite so cold. I’m especially grateful that I get to announce new staff members arriving soon, and all the good things that will allow us to do again (see more details in the updates below). And to top it off, I’m grateful for all of you who help us keep this good work going. To all the volunteers who have been coming to help chop veggies, portion out lunch items, wash dishes and clean the kitchen – you are amazing! To all those who have continued to offer your financial gifts – thank you, your gifts are doing wonderful things! To those who have engaged with us on social media and shared about Shobi’s Table with a friend – you are helping us grow! To all those who are praying for this ministry, we covet your continued prayers to keep us grounded in Jesus. And to everyone who comes to lunch, we are so glad to see you and be part of your lives. Each and every one of you are an essential part of this many-faceted community loving one another through God’s tangible Good News of a good meal. Thank you!
Director and Mission Developer
Wonderful news! We have hired both staff positions. Tina Vaughan will begin as our new Manager of Ministry Administration on April 1st. She has been a committed volunteer at Shobi’s Table for a while now, and we are excited to have someone already familiar with the ministry fill this role. We have also hired Renee Roeber as our new Manager of Kitchen and Community Operations, and she will start on May 1st. She has worked in several kitchens, and we are thrilled to have her expertise and passion for kitchen-based ministry as part of our team. You’ll hear more details directly from Tina and Renee in upcoming newsletters. We are excited for you to meet them and welcome them further into this community.
On the second day of spring, we drove the food truck back down to St Paul from its hibernation spot up north. It will spend the next couple weeks getting a tune up and a few things fixed, and hopefully will be back in action early April.
Schedule – slowly adding back
As our new staff join us, we’ll be slowly going back to our full schedule. Starting April 8th, we’ll add back Fridays in the Midway. On May 10th, we’ll add back Tuesday at the Capitol. Looking forward to getting back into the full swing of operations!
This year we’re going to try something a little different at our Friday location. We noticed last year that with all the new construction in the area, it was hard to park the truck in a way that could be seen well from the busy traffic on Snelling and University. After talking with Pr Kirsten at Bethlehem in the Midway, she connected us with some folks at the Allianz soccer field, and we got permission to serve in their parking lot – just across the street from where we parked at the church. You can still park at the church and walk right over. We’re hoping that this new location with increased visibility will bring in even more folks to Shobi’s Table. You won’t be able to miss us – the big blue truck out in the open right by Allianz Field!
